Description of the Department:
Pharmacology is the science concerned with all aspects of the action of drugs and other chemicals on living systems. Its primary aim is the discovery of chemical mechanisms by which cellular and molecular functions are regulated for the purpose of understanding how existing drugs act and to develop new drugs for treatment and diagnosis of human diseases. The discipline of pharmacology explores biology through the actions of drugs and chemical substances. Drugs and chemicals produce their effects only through modifications of underlying biological systems; their actions are useful in regulating not only normal functions of cells and organisms but also the abnormal processes which occur in disease.
Our mission is to provide quality para-clinical and clinical education in pharmacology and therapeutics for medical students, to educate and train graduate, and to carry out basic and advance research methodology of recognized excellence, and develop them to participate in governance and develop leadership in Pharmacology and present appropriately in National / International Scientific Professional Societies.
The faculties and other technical staffs of the department are working together and they are dedicated to provide complete information of pharmacology subjects to the medical students, which is ultimately, should be beneficial for the societies.
We have well equipped computer assisted laboratory to teach various experimental Pharmacology practical on the CAL animal models. The Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory is well functioning according to the recent norms of the Medical Council of Inida. The Adverse drug Reaction Monitoring system is well functioning under the Pharmacovigilance Unit. The Haemovigilance Unit reports biood and blood products transfusion related reactions. We have initiated Drug Information Centre for the faculties, students, and for the patients. We have smartboard inbuilt demonstration room.
